Vintage Negbaur Art Deco Parrot Bottle Opener & Corkscrew

An authentic, marked Negbaur “Polly Parrot” bottle opener and corkscrew, made in the United States circa 1930s.

This is a genuine period example marked “NEGBAUR” and “U.S.A. PAT’D” at the base—not a later unmarked reproduction.

Designed as a streamlined standing parrot, this clever piece of American Art Deco barware combines two functions in one sculptural form. The open beak serves as a bottle-cap opener, while the corkscrew folds discreetly into the back of the bird.

The design is based on Manuel D. Avillar’s parrot-form bottle-seal opener, which received U.S. Design Patent D78,554 in 1929. Negbaur subsequently manufactured this combination bottle opener and folding corkscrew version.

The parrot features a crisp Machine Age silhouette with a circular eye, angular feather lines, and a faceted base. At approximately 5 inches tall, it makes a distinctive addition to a vintage barware collection, bar cart, cocktail cabinet, or Art Deco display.

Condition

Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The chrome-plated finish shows light scratches, small marks, patina, and finish variation consistent with age and previous use. The corkscrew is intact and folds into the back of the figure.
